Wow, it’s my favorite time of year—fall! Mornings are cool, and evenings are just the right temperature for a sweater.

And let’s not forget Thanksgiving, the highlight of fall and one of the reasons I love this season so much. I’ve already started thinking about it, even though it’s still a month away.

What amazes me is how some people have already begun preparing for Thanksgiving. I’m not much of a cook, but I’ve noticed that those who are usually busy planning their menus, making grocery lists, and coordinating who will bring what.

They’re already getting ready to satisfy the appetites of their guests, which got me thinking about the Beatitude:

“Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” – Matthew 5:6

In the same way that we leave our loved ones’ homes feeling filled and satisfied because we came with a great appetite and the anticipation of eating more than enough, do we still hunger for and grow our appetites for the things of God?

Do we still long for God’s righteousness?

Another verse says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33

Longing for the things of God above all else brings fulfillment. That’s why God calls Himself the bread of life—He is what truly satisfies us.

The hunger we feel inside, which we often try to fill with other things, won’t be satisfied until we turn to God.

I challenge you to not only hunger for God’s presence for yourself but also for others—your nation, your city, your neighbors—to encounter Him.

Remember, “To grab hold of His righteousness is to grab hold of His will.”

How do you do that? By embracing His Word. God wants you to understand Scripture; that’s where He will fill you and guide you in walking in righteousness.
