As I promised in my last video/letter to you, I said I would share the identity statement that my pastor once shared with me.
Last week, we talked about letting go of the extra baggage in your life, much of which comes from emotional weight and past experiences. Part of releasing that baggage is understanding who you are in Christ. Below, you’ll find an identity statement that can help with that. I encourage you to read through it carefully, but don’t just stop there—find a part that speaks to your heart and carry it with you throughout this week.
Daily Identity Confession:
“I am no longer a slave; I have been bought with a price. The ransom has been paid, and I am redeemed by Jesus Christ, my Kinsman-Redeemer. I am a child of God, an heir of God, and a joint heir with Christ.
I am redeemed from the hand of the enemy, forgiven, and saved by grace through faith in Christ. I am justified, sanctified, and cleansed by His blood.
I am a new creature in Christ, a partaker of His divine nature. I am redeemed from the curse of the law and delivered from the powers of darkness and oppression. I am no longer led by the lust of my flesh but led by the Spirit of God; I am indeed a child of God.
All my needs are supplied according to His riches in glory. I abide under the shadow of the Almighty, casting all my cares upon Him because He cares for me. He has prepared a banqueting table for me in the presence of my enemies and anointed my head with oil—my cup overflows!
I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I am an heir to the blessings of Abraham. As I observe the Lord’s commands and obey Him, I am blessed in my coming and going. I am an heir of eternal life, chosen, predestined, and being conformed to the image of Christ.
I am blessed with every spiritual blessing and healed by His stripes. I am more than a conqueror through Christ. I march in a triumphant procession, overcoming the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony.
I am not moved by what I see, for I walk by faith, not by sight. I cast down vain imaginations and bring every thought into captivity. I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind.
I am a laborer together with God, an ambassador for Christ, and a member of His household, the household of faith. I am a citizen of heaven, part of a chosen people, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation. Like a city set on a hill, I cannot be hidden. I am a living stone, a living epistle read by others.
I am crucified with Christ, buried with Him in baptism, and resurrected to walk in newness of life. My steps are ordered by the Lord, and I know His plans for me are to prosper me, not to harm me, to give me a hope and a future. I am an alien and stranger in this world, seeking a better country, a heavenly city whose builder and maker is God.
I am on my way to that city, and my heart is not troubled or afraid, for Jesus has gone before me to prepare a place. He will come again to take me home to be with Him. I expect His return any day now, listening for the shout, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God. When that trumpet sounds, the dead in Christ will rise first, and then I who am alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air—and so I shall be with the Lord forever.”
