July 17th, 2023 Monday Motivator
Have you ever been let down? I know I have, and I know that I’ve let others down as well.
The STOP Sign series I’ve been sharing with you is pushed to change your heart, mind, and actions completely. That’s why, today, I want you to STOP MAKING PROMISES YOU CAN NOT KEEP.
We often do this out of guilt for saying no, feeling obligated, or fear of rejection, but I got good news for you. It’s okay to say no.
To say no is setting healthy boundaries in your personal life.
We are not Superman. Sometimes we need rest and personal time.
When you make a promise, you cannot keep you over-promise and underperform, leading to you feeling bad or disappointed in yourself and letting others down.
My challenge for you through this week’s stop sign is to “underpromise and overperform.”
Read that again!
“Underpromise and overperform,” not “overpromise and underperform.”
Doing this builds you a good reputation as someone who always fulfills what they said they would do.
Matthew 5:37 says, “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”
The word is clear: To be faithful to do what you said you would do. Take note that the verse used the word “no.” Whether “yes” or “no,” stick to your word.
This will lead to victory in accomplishing the things you want and say you’ll do as you joyfully fulfill them.
Matthew 5:33-37 says, “Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’ But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”
