Last week, I wrote about how spring is breaking across the earth, and how I could feel it in my spirit, the sense that God was breathing again upon things that had been dormant.
Creation itself seemed to whisper that God still brings life where death once ruled, on earth and in our hearts.
That thought has stayed with me all week.
But as the days have passed, another emotion has settled into my heart alongside that awakening.
I look around our world, and there is much that grieves the heart. Wars continue to spread and threaten nations.
Violence and division seem to grow in our streets and in our politics. Families are strained, communities are fractured, and the atmosphere of our time often feels heavy with uncertainty.
At moments like this, it is difficult not to feel the weight of it.
Scripture reminds us that even Jesus wept when He looked upon the brokenness of the world (John 11:35).
To love people deeply is to feel their pain, and the darkness we see around us today should move our hearts in the same way.
Yet at the same time, something else rises within me, an expectation.
Because while the world is shaking, God is still moving.
The Word tells us, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens… so that what cannot be shaken may remain” (Hebrews 12:26–27).
Throughout Scripture, seasons of shaking have often been the moments when God begins to awaken His people and reveal His purposes more clearly.
Even in the natural world, spring often arrives through turbulence.
Winds rise. Storms roll through. Rain falls heavily upon the earth. Yet those storms are not destroying the season of life, they are preparing the ground for it.
Perhaps the unrest we are witnessing is also revealing something deeper.
The world is searching for answers that politics cannot produce and conflict will never solve. Beneath the noise and turmoil, there is a desperate need for something only God can provide, a revelation of His heart.
Scripture says, “The kingdom of God is not in word but in power” (1 Corinthians 4:20).
The love of God, the joy of God, and the transforming power of God were never meant to remain hidden within the walls of churches. They were meant to be demonstrated in the world through people whose lives have been awakened by His presence.
And so my prayer continues:
“Lord, as You awaken the earth this spring, awaken Your people. In a world that is grieving, reveal Your compassion. In a world that feels shaken, reveal Your unshakable Kingdom. Let Your love confront hatred. Let Your joy overcome despair. Let Your power reveal that You are still the living God.”
Because the resurrection we celebrate at Easter reminds us that darkness never has the final word.
The stone was rolled away.
The grave was defeated.
And resurrection life was released into the world.
Spring declares it again every year: life answers the voice of its Creator.
And my hope, my deep expectation, is that in the midst of a shaking world, God will awaken His people until the earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).
