I once heard this quote from a lost source: “When I pray, I talk to God. When I open His Word, He talks to me.”

Hearing that quote gave me flashbacks to my childhood. I’ve known prayer and Scripture all my life. They were the rhythm of our home, the heartbeat of my parents’ faith.

Around our table, before the turkey was ever served for Thanksgiving dinner, someone would pray with tears in their eyes and Scripture in their heart, moments that have forever formed me.

They taught me that gratitude isn’t an event; it’s a relationship. And somewhere in that sacred conversation with God, as we offered our thanks, gratitude found its truest voice.

But this past year, those family rooted holy moments have become not just memories but a foundation for me. Prayer since then has no longer been just a moment of speaking; it has become a place of presence.

And when I open the Word, it feels as though God breathes courage into weary places.

Passages I’ve read a thousand times now glow with new light. The Word has become His voice to my soul, steady, loving, unwavering. Gratitude deepens as I listen not only for His promises but for His heart.

This year, I’ve discovered that Thanksgiving is not about counting blessings; it’s about continuing a conversation with the Blesser.

When prayer and the Word meet, gratitude becomes communion, and communion becomes strength.

So this Thanksgiving, my heart isn’t just thankful for what God has done; it’s in awe of who He has been. He has carried me through sorrow with grace, through uncertainty with hope, and through every season with a love that never fails.

Gratitude is my prayer.

His Word is His reply.

And together, they have become the sustaining light of my hope, and the song of my thanksgiving.

I pray that as I share this moment with you, it encourages you to think of Thanksgiving a little differently this year, that it moves your heart to take it deeper, cherish it longer, and let gratitude fill the room.

Let this Thanksgiving not just be about the blessings but the Blesser!

Supernatural Blessings,
Mikel
