What I have observed over the years is a common fear that many people seem to have.

I’ve recognized that many are scared to ask God this simple question:

What do you want me to do?

They fear this question because it requires surrender.

It’s not necessarily the question itself that they fear, but what they might have to give up.

This fear is rooted in a lie that people have allowed themselves to believe: that God will make them give up something that will hurt them, or that they will be asked to do something for the rest of their lives that will make them miserable. But I want you to understand this:

God will never ask anything of you that is not best for you! We often think that what God wants is solely for His benefit, not ours.

There are three levels of surrender, but only one is pleasing to God:

  1. I will do it, but I’m going to complain the whole time.
  2. I will do it, but I’m just here. Don’t expect me to get excited about it.
  3. I will do it wholeheartedly as unto the Lord.

I bet you can guess which one pleases God.

God is looking for those who will wholeheartedly surrender, but we often let fear hold us back, worrying that what He will ask of us will harm us or not be good for us.

Why am I talking about this today? Because we are in the middle of a challenge where I want people to consistently ask God throughout their day, “God, what is on Your heart? What are You doing, and where are You going?” I want people to follow God instead of asking Him to follow them.

There is a blessing in our obedience to God. We inherit all that He has for us and obtain favor when we learn to follow His ways. God wants to bless us, but are we under His will to be blessed?

Remember, “With God, all things are possible.” Go with God this week!
