Dear friends and family,

As most of you know, I have flown quite a bit over the years. There are good days for flying, and then there are days of turbulence.

On the good days, the flight is smooth. The sky is clear, the seat belt sign stays off, and you barely notice you’re 35,000 feet above the ground. But then there are those other flights. The captain’s voice comes over the intercom and calmly says, “Ladies and gentlemen, we’re expecting a little turbulence ahead.” Before long, the aircraft begins to shake. Your coffee trembles in the cup. Conversations grow quiet. Eyes glance toward the nearest flight attendant for reassurance.

What I’ve learned through years of travel is that during turbulence, my peace is not found in what is happening around me. It is found in what I am in.

The winds may be strong outside the aircraft. The storm may be raging around it. But I am being carried by something greater than the turbulence itself.

Over the last few years, my heart has been captured by a simple two-letter word found throughout the New Testament: in.

Particularly in Ephesians 1, Paul repeatedly reminds believers that we are in Christ. We are blessed in Him. Chosen in Him. Redeemed in Him. Forgiven in Him. Given an inheritance in Him. Over and over again, Paul points us back to the reality that our greatest blessing is not merely what Christ gives us—it is that we are found in Christ Himself.

The more I meditate on that truth, the more I realize how much of the Christian life is rooted in our position rather than our circumstances.

There are seasons when life feels turbulent. Unexpected news arrives. Prayers seem delayed. Relationships become strained. Doors close. Plans change. In those moments, it is easy to become consumed by the shaking around us.

But the believer has a deeper assurance.

We are in Christ.

Our circumstances may change, but our position does not.

There are also seasons of blessing and victory. God answers prayers. Opportunities open. Joy fills our hearts. Yet even then, our confidence is not found in our success. It is found in the same place it was during the storm—in Christ.

Whether in trouble or in triumph, we remain in Him.

That little word reminds us that Christianity is more than a set of beliefs. It is a relationship. God has not merely given us instructions to follow; He has brought us into union with His Son. We are loved in Him, accepted in Him, secured in Him, and sustained by Him.

So today, whatever season you may be walking through, remember this: the turbulence may be real, but so is the One who carries you.

When the skies are clear, you are in Christ.

When the storm clouds gather, you are in Christ.

When life makes sense, you are in Christ.

When life leaves you with questions, you are in Christ.

And because you are in Him, you can rest in the confidence that nothing happening around you can change what God has established within you.

Sometimes the most powerful truths are found in the smallest words.

And few words are more powerful than this one: in.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” — Ephesians 1:3
