Good morning! Christmas is just a week away! I hope you’ve wrapped up your Christmas shopping and had a chance to set up your tree or nativity scene, with all the decorations and stockings that make this season feel so special.

Today, I want to reflect on a powerful and often overlooked detail of the Christmas story: the virgin birth of Mary.

What many people may not realize is that Mary was very young. While the Bible doesn’t give us her exact age, studies suggest she was likely in her teenage years.

But what really strikes me is not just her youth—it’s that she was a woman. In those days, women were often overlooked and undervalued by society.

Why am I bringing this up? Because when you stop to think about it, God chose to trust the salvation of the world to come through a young woman—something that might seem impossible or even scandalous in today’s world.

See, the world often judges by outward appearance—your age, your wealth, your background, your status. But God looks at the heart—the true person inside.

And what God saw in Mary was a young woman who was pure, humble, obedient, willing, who feared the Lord, and who was incredibly strong-willed.

Think about it: Mary wasn’t even married yet—only engaged to Joseph. To suddenly announce that she was pregnant would have meant she was breaking the law or committing adultery.

In her time, being accused of adultery as a woman could lead to stoning. It was a life-threatening situation.

And yet, Mary didn’t shy away from her calling. She stood firm, humble, obedient, and resolute.

God saw something in her that the world might have missed.

So let me ask you this: Has anyone ever disqualified you from the thing God has called you to do? Have you ever felt unworthy of the calling on your life?

I want to remind you today that God has chosen you—just like He chose Mary. He sees something in you that others might overlook.

Mary’s strength of will is a beautiful example. It would have been easier for her to change her story, to water it down, or even deny the miracle God was performing. But she didn’t. She boldly proclaimed the miracle God had done in her life and testified to who Jesus was, knowing that her obedience would lead to the salvation of many.

Now, it’s your turn. What has God entrusted you with? What calling has He placed on your life? Just as Mary’s obedience brought salvation to the world, what God has for you will impact generations.

“In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, ‘Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!’ But she was greatly troubled at the saying and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.’

And Mary said, ‘Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.’ And the angel departed from her.”
